The work of Bernardí Roig (Palma, Spain, 1965) is strongly related to poetics of space. By using this language he creates a powerful dialogue between image and memory, as well as between noise and silence.
His sculptures, mostly human figures without colour, reflect on the body as a lonely and absent entity. The sculptures are placed in scenarios characterized by a daunting peace, which is redefined from a quite human presence. Roig’s proposal is built on pure white, which is understood as a space for both dreaming and mystery. In recent years, Roig has carried out important intervention projects, such as the cloister of the Cathedral in Burgos, Spain (2009).
His work forms part of museums and public collections such as Art Collection Grupo AENA (Madrid, Spain), Fundación Ludwig (Havana, Cuba), MADC Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (San José, Costa Rica) and Kaii Setouchi Art Museum (Kagawa, Japón).
