The show brings together drawings and engravings created over more than two years, in which the artist offers an admirable vision of the world of classical and Latin texts, establishing a connection with distant stories and legends through contemporary experience.
Interested in mythology from a very young age, the title of the exhibition, La Eneida, is a tribute to what is considered the foundational cornerstone of Western literature and civilization. It evokes a universe that seeks to understand the world through what the gods represent. For Carlos Franco, when speaking of the gods, he refers to a vital energy that has no name.
Sibyl, the Harpies, Cupid, Venus Defends Aeneas, The Mandate of Venus, The Companion of Ulysses, and many other titles of his works form part of a cosmos of Greco-Latin fables that have allowed the artist to immerse himself in a realm where he appeals to the validity of universal art beyond styles, inviting the viewer to step outside their own ideas, everyday life, concerns, and compulsive need to understand everything.
The exhibition will be on view until October 15, 2021.
