Andrés Jaque, Beth Galí, Carlos Ferrater, Carlos Lamela, César Ruiz-Larrea, Enric Ruiz-Geli, Fermín Vázquez, Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, Jerónimo Junquera, José Morales, Luis Alonso, Luis M. Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón, Manel Bailo and Rosa Rull, Oriol Bohigas, Patxi Mangado and Rafael de La-Hoz respond to a call from Scalae and Arquitectos Sin Fronteras, supported in its organization by Grupo Vía and the Miguel Marcos Gallery, and in its foundation by Lledó Iluminación, with 16 drawings that bring together, in the collection “Scalae–Arquitectos Sin Fronteras: Universes of Light”, precise moments of their professional practice.
The catalogue of the collection, a new issue of the Scalae series, presents the initiative through Arquitectos Sin Fronteras and the curators Félix Arranz, Miguel Marcos and Silvia Puig; it proposes four alternative and cardinal reflections on architects’ drawings in the words of Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, Fredy Massad with Alicia Guerrero, Josep Quetglas and Llàtzer Moix; and it reflects the identity of the drawings and their authors in a synthesis poster.
The exhibition is completed with a very simple installation on Scalae, referring to synthetic architecture, relational construction and comparative matrices shared by the various forms of architectural documentation successively activated by the architectural documentation agency Scalae: the collection of periodic architectural documents (Scalae sheets, Vía obra), the weekly broadcasts of conversations about architects and architecture on the internet (Scalae podcast), and the preparation of pre-editorial materials for institutions and publishing groups (arquia/próxima of Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, A+, Vía Construcción of Grupo Vía, Palau de la Música Catalana, architecture schools and professional associations…).
The event takes place simultaneously with the online launch of scalae.net. The site scalae.net integrates, in a structured and professional way, the documentation archive of information, records and documents issued, published, presented or processed by the architectural documentation agency Scalae over a trajectory that already spans fifteen years of presence, participation and experience.
Scalae is simultaneously a scientific manifesto, a publishing house and an architectural documentation agency. As a scientific manifesto, Scalae is based on the relevance of natural, relational and graphic scales; on the non-intermediation of content or form; on the presentation of editorial content through comparative matrix systems and relational construction; and on the exploration and display, in architecture and in the work of its agents, of the principles, processes and links that characterize authors, works and cities. This manifesto is presented as a balancing factor against traditional editorial attitudes based on the leadership of authoritative, media-driven or opinion-based voices.
