The painting of Michael Biberstein (Solothurn, Switzerland, 1948) is one of most sublime contemporary interpretations. Influenced by the immensity and solitude of Alentejo’s region in Portugal, where he lives and works, his vision is focused into the horizon and the infinite of heaven, which are interpreted in catastrophic landscape. His work has intellectual side, which absorbs the philosophy of Zen Buddhism, relative theory, quantum physics and explorations of universe structure.

His recent exhibitions are in Museo Extremeño e Iberamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (Badajoz, Spain), in Kunsthalle Tallin and Galerie Rudolfinum (Prague, Check Republic).

The work of Micheal Biberstein forms part of different private and public collections such as Birmingham Museum of Art (Birmingham, United Kingdom), Caixa Geral de Depósitos (Lisbon, Portugal), Fundação de Serralves (Oporto, Portugal), FNAC – Fond National de l’Art Contemporain (Paris, France), Kunsthaus Aarau (Aarau, Switzerland), Kunstmuseum Solothurn (Solothurn, Switzerland), Ludwig Forum for International Art (Aachen, Germany) Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento (Lisbon, Portugal), Museum fuer Heedendaagse Kunst (Gent, Belgium), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid, Spain).
