Mo / 林墨 Lin

Lin Mo (1962, Harbin, China) lives and works between Beijing and Paris. He is graduated from the Chinese Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1984, and in 1990 pursued studies in University of Barcelona. In 2011 he published the book "Travel to Find Myself", which records the past two decades of his trip in every corner of Europe, and finally explored his inner artistic source. He has held solo and group exhibitions in China, Spain, France, Italy, the United States, etc.

His resorts to colour and painting to express the traditional Chinese philosophy “Taoism”, gorgeous but unexposed, looming and hiding, closing meanwhile departing. In his paintings, one can read everything, mountains, rivers, flowers, grass, the wind and the clouds, but in fact nothing… At the same time, we can truly feel the inner breath of life. Figures are scattered, are finely divided, are misty, from which the inner soul stands out, sometimes of fear, sometimes of surprise, and other times of sweet desire but all is converged by a self-evident power on canvas —Where exactly lies in the esoteric Chinese art "shape scattered but essence united".

In his works, the bright and light occidental colours, free and graceful oriental ink, the perfect combination of east and west as well as the mix of different cultures reflecting the artist character. Ignoring all standards, breaking all the rules, he detects, with the tenderest sentiment, the uncopiable beauty of art belonging only to Art itself.
